Skunk Deodorizer

You arrive home after a long day at work. Your favorite hound greets you at the front door. Immediately you are assailed by an odor so strong; tears alight in your eyes. What has Fido been playing with while you've been away? Welcome to the pungent odor of skunk, an odor so strong that the only way to effectively get rid of it was to wait until it wore off. Not anymore. Below you will find a tried, by our own Dr. Schulze and true recipe for skunk deodorizing.

In a bucket, mix:

  • 1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide — be sure that the peroxide is within expiration and unopened
  • 1/4-cup baking soda
  • 1-teaspoon liquid soap
Please note: A chemical reaction will cause the mixture to bubble. Do NOT pre-mix and/or store any mixture in an enclosed container. The chemical reaction could cause the ingredients to explode under certain circumstances.

Thoroughly wet your animal using this mixture, taking care to keep it out of the eyes. Massage, as though you were shampooing your pet. Rinse well and repeat, making sure that you do not contaminate the concoction while rinsing.

How does it work? The soap breaks down the oil in which the odor is suspended while the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda neutralize the scent.
